While much of that praise is rightfully reserved for the title’s art direction (which, again, shines brighter than ever in this visual masterpiece), others say that Demon’s Souls features some of the best Soulslike gameplay. However, the next moment I remember is fairly unique to this next-gen title. It happened when I was walking down a tight corridor packed with enemies wielding crossbows.

I miss the sadness in Stockpile Thomas’ voice when he tells me that I have a heart of gold, and that I must protect it. This game does not suffer from any negative points in its kind, and if the only drawback of the main game was the animations and some graphics, now they have become the strength of the game. Don’t worry too much about your item burden (aka encumbrance). Unlike the original Demon’s Souls, the PlayStation 5 game lets you send items in your inventory to storage from anywhere, a helpful quality-of-life change.

Is It Worth Playing Demon’s Souls In 2025?

Excited by my progress, I ran down a stairwell to a nearby shortcut, took a wrong turn, and fell to my death. I could have easily walked into the boss room from the respawn point, but I was determined to retrieve my lost souls. This entry may seem like the most obvious improvement, but it shouldn’t be overlooked. The overhaul in assets that was done to Demon’s Souls turns a 2009 title into one of the most beautiful modern games in existence. It really showcases the power behind the PS5 and what it will be capable of in the coming years. Almost all of the enemies and bosses retain their same level of interest, but they’ve been given a fresh coat of paint that makes them scarier and more formidable looking in almost every instance. With the release of the Dark Souls Trilogy and Bloodborne, it’s wild to look back at the original Demon’s Souls and see players struggle with rolling. In the modern titles, players are able to roll omnidirectionally in order to avoid enemy attacks and position themselves accordingly.

This will help you make it through certain levels with a lot of enemies that use fire, such as the Flamelurker boss encountered in the game. In addition to a world full of demons, some jerks have left traps all over Boletaria. Watch out for hidden switches, enemies hiding behind walls, and bottomless pits.
